Fall Concert Series Guest Conductor

        Jim Watson is Pastor of Music Ministries at First Baptist Church of Lake Orion, where he directs the FBC Choir and Orchestra. He also heads the educational music ministries, including the music program of the Lake Orion Baptist School. He previously served as Director of Music Programs at Defiance College and Instructor of Music/Choral Ensemble Assistant at the University of South Carolina. Jim completed the Doctor of Musical Arts degree in Conducting in 2016. He is active as an adjudicator, clinician, and conductor. But he has always been a church musician, serving churches in Georgia, South Carolina, Ohio, and Michigan.

Spring Concert Series Guest Conductor


          Conductor, tenor, and violinist John Swedberg recently graduated with a master's degree in Sacred Music from Westminster Choir College, where he studied conducting with Joe Miller, James Jordan, and Steve Pilkington. He completed his undergraduate studies at Faith Baptist Bible College in Ankeny, IA, where he studied conducting with Irving van Hooser. John has performed under the baton of conductors including Yannick Nézet-Séguin, Gustavo Dudamel, Jaap van Zweden, Leonard Slatkin, and Peter Oundjian, at venues including New York's Carnegie Hall and Lincoln Center, Philadelphia's Kimmel Center, and Detroit's Orchestra Hall. Beginning in the fall of 2019, John will be the junior high and high school choir director at Bethany Christian School in Troy, MI. He is thrilled for the opportunity of guest conducting the TMSO this spring and excited to collaborate with an organization that prizes both artistic excellence and a Christian focus.
